Central Air Conditioners

Heat Pumps
  • Air-Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs)
ASHPs, often used in moderate climates, use the difference between outdoor and indoor air temperatures to cool and heat your home. For example, they work in cold weather because the air is warmer than the refrigerant in the system and causes it to boil into a gas. This gas is then compressed which drives the temperature up to 120 degrees or more. This hot gas transfers heat to your home. High efficiency ASHPs use less energy than conventional models. They also come with higher HSPF ratings. HSPF, the Heating and Seasonal Performance Factor, measures the heating efficiency of heat pumps.
  • Geothermal Heat Pumps (GHPs)
By using stable temperature conditions in the ground, GHPs cool and heat your home. In addition to providing much lower energy bills, high efficiency GHPs are quieter and include water-heating capabilities. Although initially expensive, they quickly pay back the homeowner with significant cost savings. GHPs are most often installed in new homes and require a duct system.

New Delhi: Iraq, which is set to become one of the major oil producers in the world, could also become India’s strategic energy partner, International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Chief Economist Fatih Birol said.
Speaking to Business Line after the release of IEA’s report on ‘Iraq Energy Outlook’ Birol said Iraq’s role in the global oil market was growing rapidly.
Currently, half of Iraq’s oil exports go to Asia. This situation will change by 2020, when exports to Asia will account for 80 per cent of Iraq’s oil exports.
Two major oil importers in Asia – China and India – will have the largest share by end of this decade. Today, Iraq produces three million barrels a day of crude oil and, according to IEA’s Iraq Energy Outlook, the country’s oil production is expected to grow by over 5 million barrels a day to 2035, he said. Incidentally, Iraq recently replaced Iran as India’s second largest crude oil supplier.
According to IEA Iraq Energy Outlook, by 2020, crude oil production is expected to more than double to 6.1 million barrels a day to reach 8.3 million barrels a day by 2035.
Birol said by 2020, China will account for almost 2 million barrels of oil a day sourcing from Iraq, while India will be getting close to 1.5 million barrels a day. Twenty years down the line, Iraq will have reached GDP levels of what Saudi Arabia is today, he said.
On whether Iraq will be able to meet the demand shortfall created due to geo-political issues in Iran, he said, “Iraq will be able to sustain it, because it has vast and low-cost oil resources. Iraq is on its way to become the second largest exporter of oil globally. The largest exporters today are Saudi Arabia, followed by Russia.”
Asked if the flush of oil from Iraq will result in bringing down prices, Birol said, “If Iraq is able to sustain the developments, then it will. But, if it remains lower than expectations or developments weaken due to any kind of political uncertainty, the prices may be $15 a barrel higher than expected in 2035.” International crude oil prices are well over $105 a barrel today.
On becoming a gas supplier to the world, Birol said natural gas could play a more important role in Iraq’s future for its power generation.
He said there was a huge potential for Indian companies to invest in Iraq in not only oil and gas exploration but also in areas such petrochemicals, IT, engineering and infrastructure.
The overseas investment arm of ONGC, ONGC Videsh Ltd, is the sole licensee of Block-8, a large on-land exploration Block in Western Desert, Iraq. The company is currently re-negotiating the contract with Iraq.

IFC invests Rs 67.5 Crore in Indian biomass company – Shalivahana Green Energy


IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, will provide $15 million (Rs 67.5 Crore) in equity financing to Shalivahana Green Energy Limited, an Indian biomass power company, to help increase India’s power supply. IFC’s investment will support the company’s expansion of about 200 megawatts of its existing biomass power projects in the Indian states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, and Tamil Nadu. Apart from IFC, Axis Infrastructure Fund 1 and IL&FS Renewable Energy Limited are also invested in the company.

Through its Post-2012 Carbon Facility, IFC will also commit to purchase up to 1.5 million Certified Emission Reductions or CERs from energy projects developed by Shalivahana during 2013 to 2020. IFC will pay for a pre-agreed percentage of the spot price of the CERs at the time of delivery, subject to a minimum price.
“IFC’s support will help us raise funds, adds credibility to our work, and raise the generation capacity of our portfolio over the next four years. The Post-2012 Carbon Facility will help us generate sustainable revenues in the long run despite the uncertainties in the global carbon market,” said M. Komaraiah, Chairman and Managing Director of Shalivahana Green Energy Limited.
India suffers from serious power shortages, poor quality and reliability of supply, and inadequate access to power. The company plans to undertake small to medium-sized projects in the biomass, hydro, and wind-energy sectors. Eighty-percent of power generation in India comes from state-owned providers, with most private players focused on large thermal and hydro-power projects.
“Improving access to regular and clean power supply is a key strategic priority for IFC in India. Our Post-2012 Carbon Facility provides the Shalivahana Group with a high-quality revenue stream from CERs up to 2020 to strengthen the viability of their projects,” said Thomas Davenport, IFC Director for South Asia.
After the Indian government made adoption of renewable purchase obligations mandatory, state distribution utilities, open-access consumers, and captive power plants are required to buy a certain portion of their power purchases from renewable-energy sources.

The Minister said that FDI up to 100% under the automatic route is permitted in Renewable Energy Generation and Distribution projects subject to the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003.   He added besides existing policy enablers under the Electricity Act, other key initiatives taken in the recent past to attract foreign private investments including from foreign countries in the Renewable Energy sector include introduction of Generation Based Incentives scheme for wind power to promote projects under IPP mode, launch of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission with 22,000 MW target for solar power by 2022, Payment Security Mechanism for Grid Connected Solar Power Projects under the Mission, Launch of Renewable Energy Certificate mechanism and Amendment in National Tariff Policy to enable Solar specific RPO.

Solar Heating Panels Advantages & Disadvantages

uring winter months, gas bills usually rise. One way to keep the gas bill cheap is to install solar heating panels. While they are not without a few disadvantages (mainly the cost of the hardware itself), there are many advantages to installing solar panels on your home. Solar panels harness the energy of the sun's radiation to power man-made devices or spaces.

History

  • Solar energy didn't become viable until the 1970s. But even then, middle-class people didn't really have the ability to install their own solar panels on their house. As solar energy became more popular each decade, it became more common to see solar panels on anybody's roof. Over the past decade, the "green movement" has provided an even greater push for the advancement of solar energy.

Types

  • Some solar panels are very expensive, and cannot be homemade. These are usually used for electricity, but can be used for heating as well.
    Homemade solar heating panels can be created simply for the purpose of heating a space, and they are not nearly as expensive as the kind that are used for electricity. It's a big project to make one by yourself, but you'll cut down on heating costs if you put the initial time in.

Effects

  • The main intended effect of a solar heating panel is to adequately heat a home or space. That is the immediate positive effect of solar hearing panels. Their other advantage is environmental. Because solar heating panels do not require natural gas but only the power of the sun, they don't use up limited resources.
    The main disadvantage of solar heating panels is a lack of convenience. If something goes wrong with a panel, there aren't large companies that drive around in trucks just for the sake of fixing problems. If your solar power breaks, it's up to you to fix it.

  • The benefit of installing solar panels is both economic and environmental.   • There are two types of solar heating panels. One is designed for air heating, and another for water heating. If you want both your air and water heated by solar panels, you will need two different panels.
    Maintenance will be necessary when you use solar panels, usually eight to 16 hours. Upkeep of solar heating panels requires cleaning and damage repairs.
    If it's not particularly sunny, you probably won't get much energy from your panels. This is a disadvantage to solar panels, but if you have a backup gas line, you can use it for those cloudy days that deny you the power of the sun.

Today I want show you what you can do to make your refrigerator run more efficiently.
Your refrigerator is usually one of the largest energy users in your home as it’s constantly working to keep your food cool and at the right temperature. Now, here are a few simple tips you can do at home to help reduce the amount of energy your refrigerator uses.
Tips:
1. Locate your refrigerators coils which are located at the back of the fridge or at the bottom behind the kick plate. Once a month, vacuum all the dust off these coils to make sure they run as efficient as possible.
2. Allow frozen food to thaw out in the fridge. It’s safe to defrost meats this way and the frozen food helps keep the fridge cool so it runs less.
3. Before placing leftovers in the fridge, make sure they cool down to room temperature. Hot food makes your fridge work twice as hard as it needs to.
4. Check the door seals on your fridge with a simple test. Close the door on a $1 bill. The seal should hold the bill tightly in place. If the bill is easily removed, you should contact the manufacturer and replace the seal.
Whether or not you have an energy star rated fridge, these tips will help you save money. Remember with everything I share, make sure to tell your friends and family so they can see the savings too.

Packing your own meals is a lot healthier since most restaurants use heavily processed foods and deep fry almost everything. Instead make yourself a healthy meal. I like to take my leftovers to work so they don’t go to waste.

Also eating out is expensive. Have you ever really considered how much you spend on eating out at lunch? On average people spend about $140 a month! That’s almost $1700 a year.
Lastly packing your own meal helps the planet. Helps reduce food and packing waste. Like I said before, I pack my leftovers that would usually end up going bad and would otherwise be thrown out. Also I like to use glass containers that can be washed and a lunch bag that can be reused.

Now most people drive to restaurants so eating out will also cut down on fossil fuel use. Any way you slice it packing a healthy lunch from home is more nutritious, it’s cheaper and better for the environment. I hope you liked this video.
