Solar Energy Products

 Solar Energy Products

The developments in solar energy technology has led to the creation of a wide range of Solar Energy Products that run on renewable and clean energy provided by sunlight. Even though solar-power run products were considered to be novelty products in their earlier stages, today they are not only popular but also highly practical. from solar powered visors to outdoor lamps, the number and types of solar power products are increasing everyday.
Types of Solar-Powered Products
Heating your pool can significantly increase your energy bills. If you consider using it unheated, it will be unusable during the winters. When you want to keep the pool at suitable temperatures, and at the same time keep your energy bills low, it would be best to consider installing Solar Energy Products like pool heating discs
The solar discs float on the water absorbing sunlight and converting solar energy into heat energy to heat up water. To get best results, it is recommended that the discs cover a minimum of a third of the surface of area of the pool.
There are other Solar Energy Products that can prove to be important part of an emergency supply kit. Solar powered radios help you listen to news and other messages even when there is a natural disaster or power outage. Batteries charged by solar power can help run important electronics even when there is no power available.
Solar powered Lanterns and flashlights are essentials for your emergency kits. And, they are certainly of great help for backpackers and hikers who cannot take along heavy batteries, and have to spend days out in the open where there can be no other source of power except sunlight.
Outdoor lighting is another fast emerging range of Solar Energy Products. You can find fake candles, tiki torches and the usual looking lanterns, all powered by sunlight. While these products collect solar energy during daytime, they start glowing with the sun going down. There are two main benefits of installing solar-powered outdoor lightings. They cut down your energy bills, and they eliminate pollution by replacing the ordinary light bulbs.
Solar Panels
All the solar-powered products are not just accessories for your home. Solar panels generate sufficient amount of power to replace the conventional electricity system and power your entire home requirements. Solar panels are installed on the room and provide clean and renewable energy that significantly brings down your utility bills. When you start producing additional electricity using solar panels in your home, you can even sell the additional power to the grid.
Future of Solar-Powered Products
As per experts in the field of solar energy technology, the present solar-powered products are just in their beginning stages. The future application of the technology is believed to grow significantly. It is also estimated that solar energy technology in future will develop to a stage where an entire city can be run on solar power. And, presently, Solar Energy Products are being developed to reduce your dependence on traditional electricity so as to minimize your utility bills.

ENERGY-SAVING HOME IMPROVEMENTS

ENERGY-SAVING HOME IMPROVEMENTS

If your utility bills were high last winter, you may be able to lower them this year by making some smart alterations to your home now. Being energy efficient doesn’t have to cost a lot of money—it’s possible to make a big difference for very little outlay.

Insulate for the Greatest Savings

A sure-fire way to lower your heating bills is to improve the insulation in your property. Whether it’s the attic, walls or pipes, proper insulation makes a difference.

Insulate the attic. You can save heating costs by laying a fibreglass insulation blanket over the joists or filling the spaces between joists with loose-fill granules. Since up to 25% of your home’s heat is lost through the roof, you should recoup the cost within a few years.

Check existing insulation.
Older houses often have only a thin layer of insulation. Ideally, it should be at least 20 cm (8 in.) deep. Top it up by 10–15 cm (4–6 in.) and you could be more comfortable and save money on heating costs.

Insulate the pipes. Insulate hot-water pipes with electric heat tape or flexible foam tubing, which you can buy from a plumbers’ supply or DIY store. You could save more than just the cost of lost heat—proper insulation helps to stop pipes freezing and bursting in winter.

Insulate the hot-water tank. Put an 8 cm (3 in.) thick insulating jacket around your hot-water tank to reduce heat loss by up to 75%. Check the owner’s manual to make sure a blanket is recommended for your model.

Reel Lawn Mower

Reel Lawn Mower

These days you can hardly turn on the TV without hearing something about how badly the economy is doing. So here a great idea that will help you save money and the environment … and maybe help you loss a few pounds.
I’m talking about switching from a Gas Powered lawn mower to a Push Reel Mower.
I’ve made a list of pro’s and con’s, for both the Gas Mower and the Reel Mower to help you decide if switching to a Reel Mower is right for you. Let’s start with the typical Gas Mower which most people own.
Gas Powered Lawn Mower
Pros:
- Cuts everything evenly including, grass, weeds, vines etc.
- Great for large lawns, makes it easy to push for long periods of time.
Cons:
- Creates air pollution that’s bad for the environment.
- Emits high levels of carbon monoxide and other toxins that are bad for your health
- Noisy
- Uses gas, which costs you money!!
- If you don’t already own one, there expensive. And if you do, they cost a lot to repair if they break down.
Man Powered Push Reel Mower:
Pros:
- Emits no pollution.
- Very Quiet
- Inexpensive. No cost wasted on gas!!
- Better for the lawn. If used regularly the scissor-like cut of the reel mower is actually healthier for your lawn.
- It better for your health. Not only are you pushing the reel mower for exercise, you won’t be inhaling toxic fumes like you were with the gas powered mower.
Cons:
- Has trouble cutting tall grass and weeds.
- Not good for large lawns, or pushing for long periods of time.
Push Reel Mowers may not be the best choice for everyone. It really depends on the size of your lawn and the type of grass you have. Be sure to review the pros and cons for each mower before rushing out and buying a new mower. If you have a Push Reel Mower, share your thoughts on our blog for everyone to see.

Switch To Digital

Switch To Digital

Today I’m going to talk to you about how you can help save our forests and the environment by switching from printed newspapers, magazines and books to their digital versions.
It’s a known fact that the production of printed material requires a significant amount of energy, water and paper in order to end up with a useable product.
With the popularity of tablets and eBook readers we now have a greener choice. Digital book readers can be used over and over and over again and they don’t use that much electricity. In fact eBook readers, last as long as one full month on a single charge!
Almost all major newspapers and magazines are available electronically. Many are predicting that eBooks will eventually replace traditional paper books all together in the near future. And in terms of convenience eBooks can’t be beat. You can quickly and easily download them and you can carry hundreds of titles with you wherever you go. Now whenever you read you can feel happy that you are contributing to a greener earth.
That’s all for today. Thanks for watching.
We’ll see you again next time.

Lighting

Lighting

TIP – Shed Some Light On The Subject: Let the sun in by pulling back the blinds if it is dark inside your home. People are often surprised to find that this actually does a better job of lighting their rooms, even when the sun is not on the same side of the house! If privacy is an issue, go shopping for sheer blinds… They will allow an optimum amount of natural lighting in, while allowing you to see out right through them!

TIP – Burn Energy Without Burning Money: In the evenings, opt for energy efficient bulbs instead of conventional ones: new proposed laws are soon to make these older style bulbs illegal for sale in most areas, anyhow. Even though environmentally friendly bulbs can be almost twice as expensive, they last up to six times as long, so you’ll hardly ever have to replace them!
The Department of Energy recently estimated that for every commonly-used household lightbulb that was replaced by an energy-efficient equivalent, annual savings would amount to $22 per bulb!
Lighting or illumination is the deliberate use of light to achieve a practical or aesthetic effect. Lighting includes the use of both artificial light sources like lamps and light fixtures, as well as natural illumination by capturing daylight.Daylighting (using windows, skylights, or light shelves) is sometimes used as the main source of light during daytime in buildings. This can save energy in place of using artificial lighting, which represents a major component of energy consumption in buildings. Proper lighting can enhance task performance, improve the appearance of an area, or have positive psychological effects on occupants.
Indoor lighting is usually accomplished using light fixtures, and is a key part ofinterior design. Lighting can also be an intrinsic component of landscape projects.

Heating & Cooling

Heating & Cooling

TIP – Buy A Programmable Thermostat: These are just awesome. I wish I’d invented them. They can so dramatically improve your home’s energy efficiency that they’ll probably be legally required in another decade. A programmable thermostat will save as much as 30 percent on controlling the climate of your home, whether you use a furnace, an air conditioner, or both at different times of the year.
If your home is well-insulated, you should see dramatic results. The best part about these devices is that you can set them to automatically adjust the temperature in the morning when everyone goes out, and have it begin to reaclimatize in the afternoon before people come home! At night it can be set to shut down again. And all this without you ever having to give it a second thought.
TIP – Caulk all windows: It’s a well-known fact that there are always leaks and gaps of varying sizes around every window frame. Actually, windows are without fail the biggest energy-losers when if comes to home heating and cooling.

The caulking around your window frames won’t last forever. And given how inexpensive the stuff is, you might as well dig it out, and replace it once a year in the spring. Reason being, elements like rain and snow can get into grooves that we can’t even see, expanding in the cold, and rotting the caulk from the inside’out. To avoid this, use a leading brand silicon caulk (which is weather-resistant) and apply evenly to ensure that you’ve achieved a good seal.
IEA Solar Heating & Cooling Implementing Agreement - Task 13 (Solar Low Energy Buildings) was an international effort organised by one of the International Energy Agency's Implementing Agreements to build several solar low-energy houses. This took place between 1989 and 1993(?). The Implementing Agreement for a Programme to Develop and Test Solar Heating and Cooling Systems is one of 40 research and development and deployment programmes, which are at the core of the IEA's International Energy Technology Co-operation Programme. The idea behind Task 13 was to push construction technology towards its limits to achieve the lowest possible total purchased energy consumption. Task 13 was part of the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, to test the designs and techniques, and to monitor their performance.

Appliances

Appliances

According to experts everywhere, Americans will be seeing their electricity bills rise dramatically in the New Year. The cost of new federal regulations such as the coming carbon emissions tax will also likely be passed along to the consumer in the form of higher-than-expected fees for energy services of all kinds.
Here are some of the simple tips and strategies that we can all follow to get the most efficiency out of the energy we use…
TIP – Clean Your Kettle: With vinegar and baking soda… Not soap. If you use these natural cleaners, you will be able to remove the calcium build-up on the inside coils using a stiff brush. It will boil faster, and won’t take so much energy to get there!
TIP – Only Preheat Ovens When Necessary: Usually this procedure isn’t necessary unless you’re baking. Get anything else right in there, and make the most of the energy that you’re using.
major appliance, or domestic appliance, is usually defined as a large machine which accomplishes some routine housekeeping task, which includes purposes such as cooking, or food preservation, whether in a household, institutional, commercial or industrial setting. An appliance is differentiated from a plumbing fixture because it uses an energy input for its operation other than water, generally using electricity or natural gas/propane. An object run by a watermill would also be considered an appliance. The term white goods orwhiteware[1] is also used for these items, primarily where British English is spoken, although definitions for the term "white goods" can differ. In the United States, the term white goods more commonly refers to linens rather than appliances.[2]
Major appliances have become more technically complex from the control side recently with the introduction of the various Energy Labelling rules across the world. This has meant that the appliances have been forced to become more and more efficient leading to more accurate controllers in order to meet the regulations.

Major appliances are differentiated from small appliances because they are large, difficult to move, and generally fixed in place to some extent. They are often considered fixtures and part of real estate and as such they are often supplied to tenants as part of otherwise unfurnished rental properties. Another frequent characteristic of major appliances is that they may have substantial electricity requirements that necessitate special electrical wiring to supply higher current and/or voltage than standard electrical outlets can deliver. This limits where they can be placed in a home.

Software audit review

software audit review, or software audit, is a type of software review in which one or more auditors who are not members of thesoftware development organization conduct "An independent examination of a software product, software process, or set of software processes to assess compliance with specifications, standards, contractual agreements, or other criteria".[1]
"Software product" mostly, but not exclusively, refers to some kind of technical document. IEEE Std. 1028 offers a list of 32 "examples of software products subject to audit", including documentary products such as various sorts of plan, contracts, specifications, designs, procedures, standards, and reports, but also non-documentary products such as data, test data, and deliverable media.
Software audits are distinct from software peer reviews and software management reviews in that they are conducted by personnel external to, and independent of, the software development organization, and are concerned with compliance of products or processes, rather than with their technical content, technical quality, or managerial implications.
The term "software audit review" is adopted here to designate the form of software audit described in IEEE Std. 1028.
"The purpose of a software audit is to provide an independent evaluation of conformance of software products and processes to applicable regulations, standards, guidelines, plans, and procedures".[2] The following roles are recommended:
  • The Initiator (who might be a manager in the audited organization, a customer or user representative of the audited organization, or a third party), decides upon the need for an audit, establishes its purpose and scope, specifies the evaluation criteria, identifies the audit personnel, decides what follow-up actions will be required, and distributes the audit report.
  • The Lead Auditor (who must be someone "free from bias and influence that could reduce his ability to make independent, objective evaluations") is responsible for administrative tasks such as preparing the audit plan and assembling and managing the audit team, and for ensuring that the audit meets its objectives.
  • The Recorder documents anomalies, action items, decisions, and recommendations made by the audit team.
  • The Auditors (who must be, like the Lead Auditor, free from bias) examine products defined in the audit plan, document their observations, and recommend corrective actions. (There may be only a single auditor.)
  • The Audited Organization provides a liaison to the auditors, and provides all information requested by the auditors. When the audit is completed, the audited organization should implement corrective actions and recommendations.

[edit]Tools

Parts of Software audit could be done using static analysis tools that analyze application code and score its conformance with standards, guidelines, best practices. From the List of tools for static code analysis some are covering a very large spectrum from code to architecture review, and could be use for benchmarking.
