Solar chargers are nothing new, but as more hit the market, we're starting to see some improvements in performance and materials that are making themincreasingly useful. The Solarmonkey Adventurer charger from Powertraveller is definitely a good example of that. Its rugged construction and the inclusion of an internal battery make it just as suitable for people going far off grid as for those that stick to more leisurely hikes.
Gizmag reports, "Powertraveller says that it created the new charger with an eye toward inhospitable, third-world environments. With a power grid scarce to non-existent in some such locations, Powertraveller realized it would need to equip its charger with an internal battery so that power could be stored for later use. The 2500 mAh internal lithium-polymer battery charges to full in about eight to 12 hours and stores enough energy to charge a mobile phone two to three times. The charger can simultaneously send solar power to the internal battery and an external 5 V USB device, so you can charge now, charge later."

The charger generates energy with two polysilicon solar panels and comes with a variety of adapters that fit most popular models of gadgets, like iPhones, iPads, iPods, mobile phones and other 5v gadgets such as portable games consoles, handheld GPS systems, e-readers, etc.
It comes in a removable, water and shock resistant, insulated clam shell case made from a durable "Cordura-type" material. The case has pockets to store gear and features a waterproof zipper. A velcro strap on the case allows it to be attached to a backpack or tent for soaking up the sun's energy.
The Solarmonkey Adventurer is going for £85.00 or about $132.
